What is Holistic Counselling?

Holistic Counselling uses a range of healing modalities and techniques, in an integrated way, to address the needs of the client. The whole person, including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual is considered in the therapy program, and all methods used are gentle, safe and support natural healing principles.

Holistic counselling is an alternative to traditional counselling and psychology and may be successful on individuals who have tried traditional methods and are searching for something different and ‘wholistic’.

It is a person-centered therapy that believes that the client has all the answers within, and it simply facilitates the process of awakening and recognition of that which is the essence. It focuses on empowering the client in accessing their own inner wisdom and healing rather than the practitioner imparting their wisdom, knowledge or healing to the client. Sessions are personalised to the client's needs and may include meditations, EFT, mindfulness practices, medicine drum healing and/ or Reiki healing. The interventions used in the counselling setting are always respectful of personal beliefs, culture and understanding of the clients.

What results can the client expect?

“Transformative Holistic Counselling aims to allow the balancing of the mind, heart and body to support the client to return to their authentic self that restores them to greater health, happiness, and freedom, and allows them to achieve Wholeness and Wellbeing in their lives and in their relationships.

Connected to their authentic self the client can walk their journey with grace, strength, trust, courage and wisdom.”
What can one use it for?

Stress, Anxiety, Depression, Overwhelm and Burnout, Work/Study-related issues, Relationship issues (incl. pre-marital issues, divorce), Grief and Loss, Chronic illness/pain, Conflict, Low Self Esteem, Lack of Confidence, Parenting issues, Self Development, Mindfulness, Decision Making.

It can also be used as a prophylactic/preventative application for people who are entering a new phase in life, such as parenthood, marriage, a new business, or career.

How does Transformative Holistic Counselling work?

Transformative Holistic Counselling works on three levels: mind (stressful thoughts/beliefs), body (emotions that get locked into physical symptoms), and spirit (developing internal resource/s).
  • Mind
When we identify with the mind without questioning the truth, it affects our reactions and our feelings. The result is suffering, distress and frustration. A stressful thought when unquestioned causes pain and turns into a limiting belief that holds us back or gives us our unpleasant experiences. Transformative Holistic Counselling identifies and addresses the thoughts or beliefs or judgments that cause you suffering and unhappiness and also teaches you the tools which the client can easily incorporate into their daily practice.
  • Body
Our body is our subconscious mind. In other words, the mind is connected to the body. Hence, stressful thoughts produce stressful reactions in the body. Emotion is energy in motion. When this energy is not allowed to be felt and moved through, and instead it is unexpressed/repressed or judged, it ends up remaining locked in the body, and ‘drags’ it down, and over time, may result in physical symptoms including but not limited to:

·    Headaches= Overwhelm

·    Gut sensitivity=Stress

·    Depression= Repressed anger/fear

"The real true emotions that need to be expressed are in the body, trying to move up and be expressed and thereby integrated, made whole, and healed".
- Candace Pert, PhD (Molecules of Emotion: The Science Behind Mind-Body Medicine

Working holistically, I teach you to become a witness to these emotions so that as you become conscious of them they disappear, no longer leaving you afraid of them. Learning to say ‘YES’ to every feeling that arises and letting it move through you-without resistance or judgment frees the energy to put into more constructive choices and experiences.

Transformative Holistic Counselling empowers you to recognize emotions and directly experience them so that the emotions become free energy and simply come and go. It also works on stuck energy using DFT and it also teaches you tools such as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT/Tapping) that are especially useful for anxiety and fear.
  • Spirit
We have all heard of Resilience, the ability to bounce back from difficult situations. Resilience depends to a great extent on the internal and external support and resources that one has already got. Working holistically, I assist the client in recognizing and developing the internal resources and support, whether spirit, soul, ancestors, creator or mother earth, that will enable them to be stronger and courageous and walk their path with grace.
Benefits of counselling:

When you share, maybe for the first time, what you are experiencing and you are ‘met’, perhaps for the first time, you can experience any of the following:

–      Supported,

–      Clearer,

–      Calmer,

–      More focused,

–      More effective in your personal and social life,

–      More hopeful and more able to take control of your life and health,

–      A sense of freedom and weightlessness, with your mind and body open to new possibilities, and giving yourself permission to be, do and have what you really want.
