“The WORK” of Byron Katie “The WORK” of Byron Katie is a revolutionary technique that has the ability to question those thoughts in our mind that cause us suffering. It is a way of identifying and questioning the thoughts that cause all the fear, violence, depression, frustration, and suffering in the world. Thoughts come and go but stressful thoughts find a place in our mind and cause suffering like hurt, anger, sorrow, fear, guilt, shame, etc. Have you ever tried to drop a thought or let go of a thought? What happens? In my experience, the thought always returns; perhaps in a different shape, size or form! By meeting these painful thoughts we begin to see them as friends, and to move through their stressfulness, into a quiet awareness, peace and freedom. Experience the happiness of undoing those thoughts through “The Work”, and allow your mind to return to its true, awakened, peaceful, creative nature.

Who can use it? Anyone who is experiencing Stress, Anxiety, Sadness, Frustration, Anger, Disappointment, Confusion, Discontentment in their relationships or in work/study environment.

“The WORK” of Byron Katie is a tool for questioning the unquestioned mind. It is based on the premise that we can’t control what we think or what we believe, and it simply questions the stressful belief in order to know what is really true for the client. By discovering that what we thought was true is not true and the opposite of what we thought is true or truer, the client’s feelings and actions change with the new perception. The process builds an awareness of thoughts and emotions. It's a way to understand what's hurting you, and to address the cause of your problems with clarity.

I consider “the WORK” of Byron Katie to be a meditation-‘of the mind’. This meditative process of self analysis results in peace of mind and puts you in charge-again. The process has far reaching effects on a deeper level that shifts something within. Unlike psychoanalysis that may last for an extended period of time, the WORK of Byron Katie is short, concise and effective and requires only one session. Family/Systemic Constellations'We are not alone'. We are the sum of our family. This means that we inherit from our parents and ancestors not only a genetic, heritable component but also a set of beliefs and behaviour patterns. We not only internalise the experience of our mother and father, we also internalise what has happened to them or to their parents, our grandparents. We carry their feelings, their pain in our unconscious mind and we remain loyal to them, even at the cost of our own lives. We do this out of love, out of our deep inner longing to belong to our family system and a fear that we may be excluded if we don't carry it for them.
More importantly, we become entangled with the history of our family. Each of us carries hurt, unresolved stories and responsibilities that don’t belong to us. These influence how we think, feel, and live, they affect our ability to act freely, to be happy, they may affect our health and overall well-being. They cause an imbalance in our lives, affect our relationship with others and are an important cause of our illnesses. Family or Systemic Constellations looks at the hidden dynamics in a family system be it the current family as in spouse/partner and children, or the family of origin. It looks at the dynamics that revolve around loyalties within our subconscious that hold us back from expressing our greatest potential to be and may be showing itself in the form of lack of success or feelings of disconnection or even physical symptoms. |
The work with our family of origin or our present family (partner, child/ren) facilitates the process of reconciliation and connection and belonging, in a good way. It creates an understanding of how we relate to our family system and an awareness of what we bring into our present family. It highlights the dysfunctionality in our relationships. It also creates a respect and understanding of the role of our ancestors from whom we can now begin to take strength. Family Constellation uncovers the hidden dynamic which is holding us back from moving forward, in a good way. The hidden dynamic is between the self (client) and the issue. It highlights the reason/person/systemic influence behind this dynamic. This work has a powerful and respectful way to deal with our history, which often has a big impact on our lives. It frees us from our entanglements so we can discover a way to liberate our potential that empowers us to lead the life we want and encourages us to be true to ourselves. |
How does it work? Family constellation is essentially a single session therapy, which may be repeated after some time has lapsed. It can be done in a group setting or in a one-on-one session. The work is carried out in a very respectful manner for the client and their family, and proceeds at a pace suited to the client. In the group setting, participants are selected by the client to represent members of their family and the work moves phenomenonlogically with the participants tuning into the Knowing Field. (Phenomenonlogy is the process of direct sensory experience, not guided by logic, reasoning or will).
In an individual setting I generally use visualization, figurines or paper to set up the members of the client’s family and the client will tune into them. Anyone who is experiencing disconnection with their family (family of origin or present family), disconnection from life or one’s purpose, or any situation where there is no real evidence of any event or incidence responsible for these feelings. It is not necessary to have other family members present for this work. It is particularly useful for health issues such as chronic illness/pain, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression and anxiety, however, the process can not be substituted for medical treatment. It is a useful tool for goal setting or decision making. Generally, family/systemic constellations will be used as part of the therapy program in order to develop resources within the client. It can also be used as a prophylactic/preventative application for people who are entering a new phase in life, such as parenthood, marriage, a new business, or career. What results can you expect? As the issue that has been troubling the client for some time are resolved through Family constellation, the client can generally expect to feel a deep state of calm and connection, peace and joy, completeness and internally supported. |
Energy PsychologyEFT Emotional Freedom Technique, aka TAPPING is a gentle technique that works by stimulating the body’s stress relief points or acupuncture points. During a session, the person will focus on a specific issue while using their finger tips to tap on these acupuncture points. These points represent the end points of the body’s energy meridians. During a distressing situation such as anxiety, fear, worry, anger, the energy gets stuck in the meridian points. In case of trauma or PTSD, the high levels of energy generated in the nervous system remain stuck causing the physical symptoms related to trauma or PTSD. EFT is useful in discharging stuck energy collected during a traumatic situation. The end result is a calm and resourced nervous system. It is also useful as a self care tool for the everyday painful emotions generated by our thoughts about a person or situation. EFT is a remarkably simple yet highly effective intervention that releases the stuck energy. It works wonderfully in children as well and can be taught to them as a self-care tool.

A highly empowering, freeing, self care tool! Works wonders before going into a stressful situation such as job interview, presentation, conflicts. It is the best way to move through your blocks, free your energy in order to reach your full potential. |
DFT Dissolution and Freedom Technique is useful for symptoms that appear to be stuck with you and nothing you have done has shifted them. The symptoms can be mental blocks, physical illness or emotions. It is particularly effective on long standing physical pain, illnesses as well as feelings that people seem to get stuck in or that occur continually.
The technique is based on a Shamanic belief that unresolved or resisted feelings from a previous situation, when unexpressed and unreleased, tend to lock into our bodies, and make our conscious energies vibrate at the same frequency, resulting in a stuck symptom. When experienced rather than suppressed, they allow the person to experience who they are beyond the neuroses. The results are long lasting. |
Saying Goodbye to Conscious Energies If the client looks back on their life they will see that they have a repertoire of feelings and sensations that have been appearing all through their life.
Some of this feelings and sensations can be conscious energies (consciousness) trapped in a role with in us. This role is played out as a feeling or sensation when we are unwilling to accept an experience such as fear, grief or hate etc. With them they bring strategies, just like most people have strategies they use to help themselves survive or operate in the world. What then happens is that they take on the role of ensuring you do not experience certain things, stopping us from surrendering to who we really are, the stillness, the peace of just being. This process is essentially simple. It is important to let go of what we know about consciousness to relax the mind and open the heart so response comes from a pure place rather than an intellectual assessment. |
Direct ExperienceWe often label our feelings as good or bad. This is simply the mind intellectualizing it. In reality, feelings are neither good nor bad, they are just energy. Our emotion is energy in motion.
The process of directly experiencing the feeling is to fully allow the feeling to be in your body, to permit yourself to drop and surrender into it, totally letting yourself become the feeling without picking it up or following it, without judging or thinking about the feeling. A feeling met this way simply disappears. |

Mindfulness Meditation and Practices for Adults and Children
Mindfulness is a practice that relieves stress, builds resilience and increases wellbeing. It does this by promoting the qualities of stillness, presence, awareness, clarity, and grounding in our lives and in our relationships. It frees us from distress by de-stressing the mind and body through conscious awareness.
Mindfulness Meditation focuses on developing practices of mindfulness through breath and inner body awareness. I can teach this meditation both on an individual basis and in a group setting. The aim is to still the mind, connect with presence and ground oneself. Participants are given exercises to use on a daily basis to encourage the development of this practice. |

How does it work?
Numerous studies have shown that visuals affect almost all major physiological control systems in the body, including respiration, heart rate, blood pressure, metabolic rates, sexual function, stress-hormone levels, and immune response. Researchers have used guided imagery and suggestion in pain management, report benefits in treating various physical ailments in both adults and children. Imagery explores the subconscious mind, therefore, when guided to create certain mental images, the client can enter a healing state of consciousness and profoundly influence the course of their issue.
